Unforgettable love

Chapter 6

Chapter 6:.

Matthew frowned and felt cheated.

In the living room, Coral had already gotten up to prepare breakfast.

Seeing Dolores sitting alone on the couch in her pajamas, Coral flashed him a beaming smile. “Did you sleep well last night?”

Coral assumed Matthew wouldn’t be back last night since he was with Helen.

However, Coral had heard a noise in the night, so she walked over and discovered that Matthew had returned last night and had even slept in his room.

The woman on the couch was Young Master Nelson’s wife. And since the marriage was arranged by the late Mrs. Nelson, naturally, Dolores must have been a good woman. Young Master had married at last, so Coral, who had been taking care of him for years, was happy for Matthew.

His tone and expression sounded too complacent and made Dolores uncomfortable.

Dolores’ lips curved into a stiff smile. “Quite, quite right.”

“Then hurry up and change your clothes. I’ll prepare breakfast and it will be ready by the time you’re dressed.”

Coral went into the kitchen and began to prepare breakfast.

Dolores looked down at her pajamas. The clothes she had brought were still in the room.

Matthew should have finished showering and changed by now, shouldn’t he?

Dolores got up and headed for the bedroom. She stood in front of the door and knocked softly several times. No one answered. She knocked again but still got no answer. Not wanting to stand in the hallway any longer, she had no choice but to open the door. The door was unlocked and opened as soon as he pushed it.

However, the moment the door opened, Dolores was greeted by an icy wind that chilled her to the bone as if it were winter in December.

Matthew sat on the edge of the bed staring coldly at a piece of paper.

That paper…

As soon as Dolores saw the paper Matthew held in his hand and the mess on the floor, her heart dropped and her blood boiled. She experienced utter humiliation as she saw that her intimacy was being completely ignored.

Dolores ran to him, snatched the paper from him, and asked, “How can you touch my things without my permission? Haven’t you ever heard of privacy?”

Matthew scoffed. “Privacy?”

The way he smiled was particularly creepy. “You married me with a bastard in the womb and now you come to lecture me about privacy?”

“I…” Dolores wanted to explain herself but was suddenly at a loss for words.

Matthew stood up and his steps seemed almost robotic. Each step seemed to change the atmosphere of the room. Then an angry frown creased his brow.

“Tell me, what do you want?”

Matthew didn’t know what to think. Did she want him to be the father of her illegitimate child and the child to be the first grandchild of the Nelson Family?

Was the earlier deal merely a way to trap him?

The more she thought about it, the more her face darkened.

Dolores’ lips pressed into a thin line and her body shuddered. She walked backwards until she bumped into a wall with her hands covering her abdomen, fearing Matthew would hurt her son.

“I didn’t mean to keep it from you. The marriage was only a short-term arrangement, and that’s why I kept it from you. I swear I have no ulterior motive.”

Matthew’s tone seemed to turn thick with unsettling intimidation. “Oh yeah?”

Dolores didn’t move the hands covering her abdomen, trying to come up with a plan. “I’m sure this sort of thing definitely can’t be tarnished. If I have any deceitful or perverse thoughts, I swear I will die miserably. Besides, if I cause you any trouble Mr. Nelson, I think you’d have plenty of ways to kill me, wouldn’t you?”

Although her movement was subtle, Matthew couldn’t help but notice. He glanced down at her covered abdomen before looking back up at her face.

“Why didn’t you tell me before?”

Matthew wouldn’t believe her so easily. Her hands protecting her abdomen slowly clenched into fists. The boy was unexpected to her as well, but he was her son, after all. She had already lost her brother, so she wanted to give birth to her son in his memory.

In the future, he would be with her and the three of them could live together as in the past.

When Dolores thought about everything that had happened that night, she couldn’t help but shiver and wiped her cold, clammy hands on her shirt. “I also found out shortly before…”

She still hadn’t told her mother about it. He didn’t dare mention the tests he’d had at the hospital. She didn’t want to leave the papers in the house, as she feared Jessica would find them.

She hadn’t expected her pregnancy to cause such a commotion. The last thing she wanted was for Matthew to think she was trying to cheat on him.

She was still very young, but surprisingly? How promiscuous was her private life?

Matthew’s face looked immensely dark, and he spoke in a warning tone. “You’d better be obedient for this month, if I find out you’re causing trouble…”

“No, I won’t cause any trouble. I will be obedient, and if I do anything out of line, I will be at your beck and call,” Dolores hastened to promise.

Even if she couldn’t win his trust, she wouldn’t let him doubt her motives.

She was already in a difficult situation, and it would be too detrimental to get her things back if she had another enemy.

Matthew stared at her testing her, as if judging the credibility of her words.

Knock knock…

They both looked towards the door and Coral’s voice called through the door. “Breakfast is ready.”

Matthew dropped his gaze from Dolores and swallowed his anger. “Clean up the floor, I’ll see you downstairs.”

Before she finished speaking, she turned and left the room.

As soon as Matthew left, Dolores’ legs went weak. She leaned against the wall behind her and held onto a low piece of furniture while she regained her strength. As soon as she felt strong, she squatted down and picked up the clothes scattered on the floor.

When she saw the ultrasound, tears slid down her cheeks and fell on the pictures. She wiped her face and told herself that she couldn’t cry, as crying was a sign of weakness. She could not be weak. Her mother and the baby she was carrying needed her.

She folded the photo and put it in her purse. Then she put on her clothes and went downstairs.

There was no one in the dining room anymore and there was an empty coffee plate on the table. That meant that Matthew had already finished eating and left.

Dolores let out a sigh of relief, glad that she wasn’t being pressured to spend time with Matthew.

She took a seat at the dining room table and ate a delicious meal.

After breakfast, Dolores left the house. She had promised her mother that she would visit her as soon as she could fear Jessica was worried about her.

As soon as she arrived, Jessica stopped her at the door. “The Young Master of the Nelson Family…”

“Mom.” Dolores’s tone was heavy and she didn’t want to talk about any of it. “He’s a very nice person. Please don’t worry about me.”

Jessica sighed. Her daughter had grown up, she thought for herself and was no longer interested in listening to her mother. She couldn’t help but feel disappointed, “I only care about you.”

She feared Matthew would treat her daughter badly.

Dolores hugged Jessica. She hadn’t meant to, but she was too exhausted after putting so much effort into confronting Matthew and convincing him that she didn’t want to hurt him. “Mom, I’m just a little tired, I didn’t mean to.”

“I know, I don’t blame you.” Jessica could feel her daughter’s tiredness. “If you’re tired, go get some sleep.”noveldrama

Dolores nodded. Although she didn’t want to sleep, she was really tired.

After going to her room, she fell asleep without realizing it.

By noon, the lunch Jessica prepared was ready and she woke Dolores up to eat.

Once Dolores sat down at the table, Jessica served her some rice. “I made the meal with the fish you like to eat.”

Jessica felt guilty about her daughter. Although she had given birth to her in a good place, she had failed to give Dolores a good childhood and had let her suffer along with her.

Dolores looked at the sweet and sour fish cooked by her mother on the table. It had a slight sweet and sour taste that she loved to eat. However, when she caught the smell wafting up to her, her stomach turned.

She couldn’t help a groan escaping her. “Urg…”

“Lola.”

Dolores didn’t have time to explain. She covered her mouth and headed for the sink, lowering her body to the sink and retching.

Jessica worried about her daughter and followed Dolores. Jessica had experienced this before and seeing her daughter’s reaction, her face paled. But, Jessica didn’t quite believe it as her daughter was very conservative and obedient so she had never had a boyfriend at school. She was always honest.

Jessica’s voice trembled as she asked, “Lola, what’s wrong?”.

Dolores’ body stiffened and her hands over the sink clenched into a fist. She decided to give birth to the child so sooner or later Jessica would find out.

Dolores turned to look at her mother and steeled herself.

“Mom, I’m pregnant.”

Shocked, Jessica lost her balance for a moment and took a step back. She wasn’t ready to believe it, since her daughter was only eighteen.
