Chapter 14
Chapter 14:
“What are you talking about?” Dolores was even more confused.
Matthew stood up from his chair and walked towards her as he was silhouetted by the lighting in the room. His steps were steady and slow. Finally, he hovered over Dolores and said, “You’re still my wife in name only, so you should refrain from being intimate with other guys.”
He didn’t care what had led to their marriage. As long as they were a married couple, she couldn’t tolerate being cheated on.
That was his limit, And also his dignity as a man!
Dolores couldn’t process his words. Since when had she been intimate with other men?
She immediately replied, “Haven’t you slept with other women here too? Should I be picky with you as your wife too?”
The wrinkles in Matthew’s forehead deepened, “I haven’t slept with other women.”

Dolores was momentarily stunned. She was sure Helen had spent the night here yesterday.
Who was to believe they hadn’t ended up sleeping together?
However, she suddenly realized that whether or not he slept with other women, that had nothing to do with her anyway.
Matthew’s expression was getting uglier by the minute – what was he thinking?
Dolores didn’t want their relationship to sour. She softened her tone, “I’ll try to abide by your demands. Then…”
She waved the documents in her hands to indicate her intentions, afraid she wasn’t being obvious enough.
Matthew mumbled in reply, but he couldn’t hide the tinge of anger in his voice. He was not angry with Dolores, but with himself.
Why should he explain himself to her?
Was he out of his mind?
He was really annoyed by his response to her today! That feeling of discomfort almost turned into one of disgust!
Since Dolores had gotten a job in a restaurant, he had to finish translating those documents as soon as possible.
When the clock struck midnight, she was only halfway finished. However, her energy was already waning.
To refresh himself, he loaded up with the documents and headed for the living room. At that moment, the entire villa was shrouded in deep silence. Matthew and Coral were probably fast asleep at that moment.
He placed the documents on the table and poured himself a cup of warm water in the kitchen. She put the glass on the table and sat down on the mat as she continued with her translation task.
Matthew was quite thirsty, so he went downstairs to pour himself a glass of water in the middle of the night. When he saw Dolores continuing to translate his documents, he couldn’t help but frown.
However, he said nothing as he passed her. Dolores noticed his presence, but did not greet him immediately.
Matthew was used to living alone, so when he saw a glass of water on the table, he instinctively picked it up and began to drink it.
“Uh…”
Dolores wanted to remind him that she was using that glass, but to her dismay, Matthew was already gulping water from it. She was no longer able to continue her sentence.
Matthew glanced at her briefly and saw that she was hesitating about something. His gaze lingered on her face for several seconds before shifting to the glass in his hands. In the dim glow of the light, he saw a faint smudge of lipstick on the rim of the cup.
Her lips had touched that part of the glass a moment ago.
She was drinking from a glass that had just been used by someone else.
Coupled with Dolores’ reaction, that person was probably her.
Dolores kept looking at the floor, pretending that nothing was happening. However, she felt her face burning strangely.
They really weren’t familiar with each other, so this simple gesture of him sharing his glass was a little too intimate for her.
Even if she didn’t do it on purpose, Dolores still felt embarrassed by it.
Matthew’s lips trembled slightly as he licked his lips. He didn’t know what to do about this situation, so he simply finished the water in the glass in one go.noveldrama
He set the glass down on the table and walked towards her. He realized that it was already one in the morning, so he started, “Won’t you sleep yet?”.
Dolores continued to stare at the floor, unwilling to lift her head, “I’m not sleepy yet.”
Matthew looked at her for a moment before turning around and going back upstairs.
When he reached the top of the stairs, he suddenly remembered that she had mentioned that she had gone to his company for a job interview and had not been selected. He felt strange about the whole thing. After returning to his room, he picked up the phone and dialed Abbott’s number.
Abbott was still immersed in his sleep, so he was a little disturbed when the ringing of the phone woke him up. He grabbed the phone in annoyance and with a plethora of swear words swimming in his head, he was about to berate whoever dared to call him so late at night.
However, when he saw the caller’s name, his feeling of frustration disappeared without a trace. He rubbed his eyes nervously and answered the call, “Yes, Mr. Nelson.”
“Investigate the reason why the human resources department has denied hiring a female translator recently.”
“Huh?” Before he could fully comprehend what he was being told, the line went dead.
Abbott stared at the phone for a long time. Why was the president calling him on such a trivial matter?
A distorted expression slowly formed on his face.
Wasn’t he purposely disturbing his sleep for no reason?
However, he could only keep these words of complaint to himself. He dared not delay the fulfillment of his orders.
The next day, Coral awoke to the sight of Dolores sleeping soundly as she leaned on the table. There was a huge pile of papers around her, and Coral couldn’t make out anything that was written on it. She only guessed that it was probably something related to her work, and let out a sigh, “You shouldn’t be trying so hard without even sleeping.”
Despite not understanding Dolores’ situation, she grabbed a blanket and Coral covered her with it.
At that moment, Matthew was coming down the stairs. As he saw Coral cover Dolores with a blanket, a dulled emotion sharpened by the passage of time slowly came over him.
He walked toward her and bent to pick up those sheets of paper. There were twenty-two pages in all, and she had translated every one of them and written them flawlessly.
She had probably spent all night completing the translation. Did this woman never sleep?
Matthew couldn’t help but glance at her.
Coral just let out a sigh, not knowing what she could say.
She turned and disappeared into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
By the time Dolores woke up, she saw Matthew rummaging through her breakfast. She rubbed her eyes as she tried to help herself by pushing against the table, but to her misfortune, her legs were numb.
She had to wait for the numbness to dissipate before she could wake up properly.
Then, she headed to the bathroom to wash up and take a bath, trying to freshen up.
After getting dressed, Dolores came out of her room and held out the papers to Matthew, “They’re done.”
She settled into her seat to eat her breakfast. After a pause, she added, “If you’re free, remember to pay me.”
She was afraid he would forget to pay her.
Matthew put down his coffee and stared at her for two seconds, “I don’t carry cash. Look for me at the company later.” After saying that, he stood up.
Dolores took a sip of her milk and decided not to pursue the matter.
As long as he paid her, she would have no problem with the details.
The reason Dolores had been working so hard to complete the translation was that she didn’t want anything to affect her new job today.
When Matthew left, Dolores did the same shortly after.
She had to wear a uniform at the restaurant. Dolores put on a white shirt and a black vest. She wore a bow tie and her tight skirt exposed her two long, slender legs.
Helen was sitting by a table near the window. She had been in high spirits since Matthew had invited her to eat alone.
Although Matthew had acknowledged the nature of their relationship as well as promising to marry her, he never took the initiative in anything. It was she who had taken all the initiative.
“Matthew-”
“I heard you were the one who objected to hiring Dolores for the translator job.” He had heard from Abbott earlier in the company.
It turned out that Helen was the one who had been playing games with the hiring process.
Helen held tightly to the armrest of her chair-how had she found out about this?
Matthew was leaning back in his chair, and the sunlight outside the window was falling on him. He rested his chin lazily with his hand as his gaze was one of scrutiny.
He felt he no longer knew this woman before him, who had once saved her when they were young and created a potion for him.
