Chapter 41
Chapter 41:
“Married?” Chelsea furrowed her eyebrows and let out a giggle, “How is that possible? My house still has the household register. When she left, she hadn’t even graduated from college yet. And now he’s only twenty-four.”
Violet turned her head around and said, “Didn’t she have a partner then? Why did she suddenly go abroad? Is it possible that she went with her boyfriend? Didn’t you say she didn’t even finish her college studies?”
Chelsea made a scornful face at the mention of this matter, “Her boyfriend back then? Oh, you must know him. It’s Kingsley West, the older gentleman of the West Group. He had cheated on her with her best friend back then and they wanted so badly for everyone to know about their relationship. Only Hayden was kept in the dark – what a fool.”
“Yes? Kingsley West?”
Violet was thoughtful for a while. It seemed Chelsea didn’t know that her sister Hayden had given birth to a baby girl.
Hayden had been in N City for six years and had left town five years ago. So it could be deduced that the child must have been born in N City. Thus, the father of the child was probably a citizen of N City and, of course, it must not have been Kingsley.
After leaving the golf course, Violet, who was sitting in the van, pondered this matter and gradually felt it strange.
“Jason, I want to look into a person’s private affairs that happened five or six years ago, is there any way I can get it?”.
“Yes, you can get a private detective.”
“I want to investigate a person.”
“Who?”
“Hayden Downey, the second daughter of the Downey Family. If the information I have is correct, she went overseas after giving birth to a baby girl in N City five years ago. I want to know who the girl’s father is.”
Joseph’s attitude toward Hayden was very strange. But Violet didn’t think Joseph would treat Hayden so special just because he had once saved Noah. Anyway, even though others might think she was too suspicious, Violet felt that she would only be at ease after making sure that Hayden had no relationship with Joseph.
…
Chelsea, on the other hand, returned home.
As soon as she entered the house, her mother Sofia Mason came over to greet her, “Darling, why are you back so late? You missed dinner.”
Chelsea put her arm around Sofia’s arm and said intimately, “I went to the golf course today with a friend and we chatted for a while, her name is Violet Kidman. You said you liked her series, so I asked her to give me her autograph.”
“My dear Chelsea is very thoughtful.” As she praised her daughter, Sofia looked in the direction of the couch and raised her voice, “Although I haven’t given birth to a son, I can’t find a more thoughtful person in the world than my dear Chelsea.”
“That’s enough, Mom, don’t embarrass me.”
Chelsea smiled and complacently approached the sofa with a cup of tea in her hands, “Dad, there you are.”
Bentley Downey, who was reading the paper sitting on the couch, put down the paper and looked at Chelsea affectionately as he chided her, “You’re back too late. Wash up and get to bed as soon as possible, girls shouldn’t stay up late.”
“Okay.” Chelsea nodded obediently and added, “I see. Dad, you should pay more attention to your health too.”
“By the way.” Bently took a sip of tea, looked up and asked, “Last time you said you saw your little sister at a mall. Do you know where your sister’s home address is?”
At these words, Chelsea’s smile stiffened a little. She repressed her rising disgust and replied, “How should I know? I wanted to talk to her some more that day, but she seemed to be very busy and didn’t want to talk to me much. If it weren’t for the fact that I ran into her at the mall, I’m afraid we still don’t know anything about her return to the country.”
Bently heaved a sigh, “This girl, unfortunately. It’s inappropriate to leave her alone outside the house. If you have time, ask her where she lives now. I want to visit her, it’s best to persuade her to live at home, only then can I have peace of mind.”
Chelsea furrowed her eyebrows. But just as she was about to say something, a coughing fit sounded from behind.
Sophia gave her daughter a wink and came over with a bright smile, “That’s true, it’s not safe for a child to stay away from home alone. I am free these two days and will ask others for help to inquire about her residence. N City is not that big, it will be easy to find out her address.”
“Good.” Bently went back to pick up the paper.
Returning to her room, Chelsea threw herself on the bed and said angrily, “Mom, why did you accept Dad’s proposal to look for her? The last time I told you I’d seen that bitch at the mall, you shared the news with Dad. Aren’t you making trouble for yourself?”
Sofia closed the room, said serenely and slowly, “She will come back to our house regardless of whether you told your father or not. Now that she’s back in the country, it was impossible for her not to come home. We will be caught off guard if she comes back herself, so we had better take the initiative to tell your father. Then he’ll think we’re very considerate and kind.”
“Will it do any good, even if he thinks we are considerate and kind? If he comes back, Dad will reconsider the inheritance.”
Sophia furrowed her eyebrows at those words and her face turned somber as she snorted, “It’s all my fault. I didn’t give birth to a child; otherwise, he wouldn’t have to choose between you and that bitch. Luckily, things are not so difficult now, that bitch has been away from home for many years. Will she have good prospects? As long as she marries into a noble family, she will undoubtedly be the sole heir of the group.”
The gloominess on Chelsea’s face gradually dissipated and she said arrogantly, “Of course. When she was abroad all these years, who knew what man she’d been messing with and what a slut she’d be? I’m afraid the reason she refuses to come home is that she’s embarrassed herself.”noveldrama
“…”
…
The weekend was over. On Monday, Hayden sent Stella to Kindergarten early in the morning, as she had to go to work herself.
She went to the headquarters to attend a meeting. As the meeting ended, Hayden stopped Joseph in the hallway, “Mr. Beckham, wait a moment.”
Joseph and his assistant Magnus James turned around at the same time.
“What’s going on?” asked Joseph.
“Are you going to the hospital at noon?”.
“Yes.”
Hayden heaved a sigh of relief and handed him an insulated lunch box he was carrying. “Inside is soup that has been boiled overnight. This insulated lunch box is specially made to ensure that the food inside stays warm until noon. Please take it to Noah.”
Joseph nodded and took the insulated lunch box from Hayden.
Magnus, who was standing to the side, opened his eyes wide in surprise. It wasn’t the first time he had seen something like this. Miss Downey and Mr. Beckham’s relationship was really intriguing.
She showed a lot of concern for little Noah’s condition. And Mr. Beckham just let her be.
“By the way, please take this.” Hayden handed her a palm-sized notebook.
“Here are written down the detailed methods and steps for making the soup, just give it to your cooks. I may not have time to cook for Noah recently, as I dare not delay the progress of the project planning. I am very sorry.”
Joseph took the notebook and said, “Never mind.”
“Then I’ll go back to the hotel.” Hayden nodded, smiled matter-of-factly, and headed for the elevator.
“Hayden Downey.” Joseph stopped her. Hayden heard his deep voice sounding from behind her.
She turned in confusion, “Mr. Beckham, is there any other business?”
“I’ll send someone to pick you and Stella up Saturday morning. Noah is hoping you can visit our house and play with him.”
“What?” Hayden was surprised and asked, “Your…. Your house?”
“Any problems?”
“Urm… nothing… nothing… but the planning…”.
“Bring the work to my house. You’ll get extra pay.” Beckham then asked in an unchallenged tone, “Any problem? I never force others to do anything, drop the matter if you are reluctant.”
“No…no problem.” Hayden was speechless.
He never forced others to do anything? Bullshit. They weren’t equals by nature, since they had made a bet back then and, more importantly, she hadn’t signed the contract with the company. Therefore, whether or not she could stay with the company was at his mercy. Since her boss had given her the order, how dare she refuse?
